Dear BCC Family,

On behalf of the BCC Board of Directors, I am thrilled to announce that Rabbi Jillian R. Cameron has accepted our offer to become BCC’s next rabbi. Rabbi Cameron will begin serving our community on July 1, 2020. She has been given a three year contract, the first year at 2/3rds time and the remaining
two years at full time.

Throughout her interviews, Rabbi Cameron demonstrated great energy and enthusiasm, as well as an eagerness to work collaboratively with co-clergy, staff, lay leaders, and every member of our congregation to help shape the future of BCC and ensure its continued vibrancy and growth. Rabbi Cameron’s excitement was evident in an email she sent shortly after being offered the position at BCC.

She wrote, in part, “Almost immediately, I felt a special connection with the values, spirit and people of BCC.  I knew in my heart that this was the community I longed for and dreamt of as a rabbi and a person.  It is with great joy, honor, pride and excitement that I join you as the next rabbi of Beth Chayim
Chadashim.  I can’t wait to begin our journey together.”

Rabbi Cameron’s background is ideally suited to the needs of BCC. She has served as a congregational rabbi, a community rabbi in the Boston area, and has substantial experience as an educator of both children and adults. She has worked extensively with the diverse population groups that are represented within BCC, including the LGBTQ+ community, interfaith and multicultural families, and Jews by choice. She founded Jewish Tribe for Pride, an organization created to ensure Jewish participation in the North Shore Pride Parade. She was also the director of Interfaith Family/Boston for four years, where she provided pastoral care for interfaith families, created innovative educational programs focused on family diversity, and built relationships throughout the Boston Jewish community.

It is no wonder that the Rabbinic Search Committee and Board of Directors overwhelmingly supported the appointment of Rabbi Cameron as BCC’s next rabbi.

We are planning a number of community-wide Zoom meetings with our new rabbi in July, where you will have a chance to get to know her and to share your thoughts on BCC and its future. An announcement with the dates and times of those meetings will be sent out shortly. I hope that you can attend one or more of them.

I am also grateful to all of the congregants, clergy and staff who participated in this process at each stage. All of you have shown a high level of interest and a strong commitment to BCC’s future.

In closing, I want to personally thank our Rabbinic Search Committee (Elizabeth Savage and Ginger Jacobs, co-chairs, Robin Berkovitz, Davi Cheng, Naomi Katz, Jack Kelly, Deborah Lowe, and Larry Nathenson). As an ex-officio member of that committee, I witnessed first-hand the enormous amount of time and energy that they put into our successful search, the seriousness with which they approached the process, and the thoughtfulness that they exhibited in their deliberations.
As our transition to new spiritual leadership moves into its next phase, please feel free to reach out to me at president@bcc-la.org with any questions or comments you might have.
L’hitraot!

Jay Jacobs
